With a regular rhythm of weekly farmers markets on most days of the week, monthly artisan markets, community markets and vintage flea markets, you’d be hard pressed to find another region with a collection of markets more exceptional than the markets in and around Byron Bay.

In this guide we’ve focussed on markets within walking distance of Basq House - Byron’s Community Market, Beachside Market, Twilight Market and the farmers market.

We also couldn’t miss our favourite market in Bangalow’s quaint village, so book the Basq guest car and go for a hinterland drive!

BYRON BAY COMMUNITY MARKET

Jonson St precinct – 1 minute walk

Byron Bay Community Market is held on the first Sunday of each month from 8am to 3pm, with additional markets happening on the third Sunday of December and January.

The streets of Byron town centre in the Jonson Street precinct are closed to traffic for the Byron Community Market.

Running from 1987, the Byron Community Market is Byron’s original market. It has a vast and eclectic collection of over 300 market stalls which showcase Byron’s lively culture in a fanfare of colour and music. With plenty of buskers and performers, music and drumming, people from all walks of life and delicious aromas of food cooking, it’s a welcoming place.

Wandering through the market stalls is a great day out for locals and visitors alike. Everyone seems to shift gear into a slower pace, content to meander, browse and buy many of the quality offerings available.

Market days are highly social. They’re a real chance to meet the creators and providers, catch up with friends or make new acquaintances with colourful locals, some of whom have been trading at the markets for a long time. There’s always a story to be shared and history to be told.

Over the years the markets have seeded thriving enterprises, some of which have attracted global media attention and celebrity patronage. Fashion brands Spell and ROWIE, and Brookfarm muesli all started with a community market stall and then grew far beyond.

BYRON BEACHSIDE MARKETS

Dening Park, near the Surf Club - 4 minutes walk

The Byron market experience dials up a notch at holiday time. Located in the oceanside park adjacent to Main Beach and Clarkes Beach, the Byron Beachside Market is one not to be missed.

Held during the Christmas holidays, the Easter long weekend, as well as the July and September school holidays, this market is always alive and brimming with artisan collectables, handcrafted homewares, well-being pamper products and fashion one-offs.

What could be better than a quick summer ocean dip, followed by a market meander with fresh juice, homemade ice cream, barista coffee and a hand-baked morsel of deliciousness, all to the soundtrack of local musicians and singers? It’s a must-add to your holiday itinerary.

BYRON TWILIGHT MARKET

Railway Park - 2 minutes walk

The perfect before or after dinner market exploration in the heart of Byron’s vibrant village is the Twilight Market each Saturday from 4pm to 9pm during the months of October to April.

Lit by fairy lights and with cool night music vibes, the Byron Twilight Market is a magnet for designers and creatives, epicureans and growers, who showcase their creativity, artistic expression, entrepreneurial vigour and wellness lifestyles. Here you’ll find handmade, high-quality design and artistry, right under the Byron stars.

BYRON FARMERS MARKET

Butler St Reserve - 8 minutes walk

With many weekly farmers markets spread across the region, the Byron Farmers’ Market held every Thursday morning is a standout.

Only eight minutes’ walk from Basq House, here you’ll find gourmet goodies, fresh produce and a great breakfast with organic locally-grown coffee. It’s a weekly visit for many locals, who source the freshest locally grown produce, artisan made food products and more.

This is the best place where you can meet some of the many farmers and food producers in the Byron region, who are deeply connected with the provenance of their food and those who grow it.

It’s best to arrive at the farmers market in the morning just after an ocean dip. Enjoy a just-made breakfast and steaming coffee before an epicurean discovery walk through the market stalls.

BANGALOW MARKET

Bangalow Showgrounds - 15 minute drive

Byron Bay’s beautiful hinterland is well worth the 15 minute inland drive from Basq House. As the road ascends up to the Coolamon Scenic Drive ridgeline, you’ll see spectacular views of the shimmering blue ocean framed by undulating green hills dotted with contented cows.

There’s plenty of places for a day trip exploring the winding roads of Byron’s hinterland. One of the highlights is the Bangalow market on the fourth Sunday of each month. Locals agree that the Bangalow market tops this region's array of community markets - and that’s saying something, because they’re all good!

The quaint village of Bangalow is a hub for vintage wares and artisan creations, and there’s plenty more at the market, which is sited in the village itself in lovely, old historic showgrounds.

Lined with generously shady old trees, the showground is large and has a magical village atmosphere. Full of eclectic sights, alluring aromas and musical sounds, this market boasts a wide variety of fashion, design, homewares, plants, giftware as well as delicious food, great coffee, buskers, entertainers and colourful stallholders.

Markets in Byron Bay are the perfect places to explore and forage for the freshest local organic produce and baked delights; and to unearth pre-loved treasures, one-off craft pieces and vintage collectables. And the best thing is that they’re all just a short walk from your Basq House basecamp!
