One More Night Changes Everything

“How beautiful it is to do nothing, and then to rest afterward.” — Spanish proverb
Every traveller knows the siren’s call to stay just a little longer. Yet so often, we compress months of anticipation into a flurry of check-ins, pit-stops and goodbyes.
At Basq, we know how quickly a holiday loses its magic when it feels hurried. So rather than stealing a few brief days of rest, we invite you to gift yourself the generosity of time.
Take that hinterland drive. Book that wish-listed long lunch. Or spend a sweet day doing nothing but swimming, snacking and sleeping.
Speak with our hosts at reception anytime during your stay. Where availability allows, we're always happy to arrange a few more days at the House.
The Hinterland Pull
When departure isn't looming, a trip to the hinterland stops feeling like a far-off destination. Only 30 minutes inland from Basq House, Byron’s coastal salt air gives way to red earth and cool ridge breezes.
In Federal, start the morning over a single-origin brew at Moonshine Coffee Roasters, before wandering across to Doma. A staple in the village since 2012, this laid-back Japanese café serves up freshly rolled sushi, house burgers, and daily specials to enjoy in the sunlit wooden garden.
As you explore the region’s winding country roads, you might stumble upon Bangalow’s Lumber Yard: a restored 1900s timber mill beneath jacarandas, houses local ceramicists, jewellers, and design studios working in the shade of the timber beams.
Further up in McLeods Shoot, Cape Byron Distillery offers more than just a drink. Wander their regenerating rainforest to see where the native botanicals come from. Then finish on the open-air deck with a cocktail or guided tasting flight.
The Second Long Lunch
Extra days turn lunch from a rushed booking into the sunlit anchor of your afternoon, especially when paired with a morning swim along the coast.
Spend the morning in the water, then walk straight up from Clarkes Beach to Beach Byron Bay for lunch above the dunes. Or wander around to the sheltered corner of Wategos for a mid-morning dip before settling into the coastal elegance of Rae’s on Wategos.
Heading inland off Friday Hut Road, pair your afternoon meal with a visit to Killen Falls. An easy boardwalk through remnant Big Scrub rainforest leads to the top lookout, or you can take the steeper track down to the base to swim in the waterhole and explore the cave behind the waterfall.
Just down the road in Nashua, Frida’s Field operates on a single, unhurried sitting running Friday through Sunday across 120 acres of regenerative farmland. Alternatively, back towards the coast, Shelter sits directly opposite the Lennox Head point break for skin-contact wines and sustainable seafood served to the rhythm of the tide.
Order the extra course. Stay for another glass. There’s no packing waiting back at the House, just the quiet drive or stroll home as the light turns golden.
A Day of Sweet Nothing
This is the rare experience that extra time yields: a day with zero expectations.
Begin without stepping beyond Basq. Walk downstairs to Navia Bathhouse while the morning is cool, and move between the Finnish sauna, ice plunge, and magnesium soak.
Spend your remaining time soaking in the beauty of Basq House. Lose an hour in our courtyard Library, take a quiet dip in the courtyard pool, or walk down to Little Wategos at low tide, where granite rockpools sit sheltered beneath the lighthouse cliffs. No car required.
That's the true beauty of staying a little longer: gifting yourself the time you came for, and letting us take care of the rest.
Stay a Little Longer
More time to explore, indulge, and unwind. Direct bookings of 5 nights or longer at Basq House receive 20% off your retreat, or ask our reception team during your stay about extending, subject to availability.
